Art Space on Main Classes - TAKE A CLASS

Art Space on Main offers classes for everyone - from inquisitive beginners, off and on hobbyists, to experienced artists. Our talented instructors work with their students one-on-one to foster a nurturing environment that promotes learning, growth and artistic development.

Art Space on Main offers eight-week sessions in clay, from beginning to advanced levels - whether creating on the potter’s wheel, or with hand-building and sculpture.  We are also excited to offer four week sessions in Warm Glass & Fusing, as well as sessions for your “Clay Kids”.

General Class Information

For four, six and eight week Sessions:

  • Class fee includes all glazing cost and firing fees

  • All class sessions include 20 hours per week of free Open Studio time.

  • All tools and clay can be purchased on the first day of class, however clay, tools and materials will be provided for students for the first class ONLY. After the first class, students may use the Art Space on Main tools, supplies and equipment, but it is recommended that students purchase their own tool kit ($15 each). Tools, Kits and other supplies are available for purchase in the ART SPACE ON MAIN boutique.

  • Students must purchase their own clay from Art Space on Main.  New clay is available for $27.00 per 25 lb bag; recycled “pug” clay, when available, is $4.00 per 10 lb bag.  Only clay purchased from Art Space on Main will be fired.

  • Class minimum of four to six participants

For all “Introduction to Clay” classes ONLY:

  • Class fee includes all glazing costs and firing fees, as well as clay and other supplies.

Day Classes

Students will be introduced to the potter's wheel where they will learn the fundamental and basic techniques of making pottery. Instructor will provide weekly discussions/demos to develop skills for throwing: wedging, centering, pulling up a wall. Class projects: cups, mugs, bowls, and vases.

Sculpture

Students will learn multiple techniques for sculpture and hand building. This class is for those who desire to create fearlessly and take risks with the goal of making their best work possible. Emphasis is on the creative process. We will experiment with: engobes/slips, oxides, carving, patterns, textures, paddling, fluting, slip transfer, wax resist patterns, non-traditional shapes, and using forms and tar paper. Prerequisite: a creative spirit and a desire to learn something new.

Introduction Classes

Art Space on Main would love to have you join us in one of our INTRODUCTION TO CLAY classes. These classes are two-hour sessions, offered throughout the week and throughout the year. It's easy! Look at the class descriptions below and then pick your day/time that you'd like to come get dirty and play in clay. Next, call us to reserve your space. We hope to see you soon!

Introduction to clay classes are held three times a week:
  • Tuesdays 10:30AM - 12:30PM
  • Wednesdays 3:00PM - 5:00PM
  • Saturdays 4:00PM - 6:00PM

Clay For Kids

  • Children learn some basic clay techniques as they create their own fun project
  • Includes all supplies, instruction, kiln firings, AND pizza dinner/drink. Kids keep what they make - whether it's one piece or many
  • BUY MORE AND SAVE! Sign up for one session, OR many sessions.
    • Buy 5 sessions - save 10%
    • Buy 10 sessions - save 20%
  • Please CALL IN ADVANCE to sign up as space is limited to eight kids per session
  • All kids welcome from age 6 and up. Of course, adults are welcome to join in the fun, as long as it's okay with the kids!

CLAY FOR KIDS sessions are as follows:
  • Every other Friday 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
  • Every other Wednesday 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Warm Fused Glass

Art Space on Main is happy to continue to offer our popular Warm Fused Glass Classes & Workshops, each introducing exciting fusing techniques and projects. This is your opportunity to learn about warm fused glass, or to advance your skills through new techniques and exciting projects! ALL WORKSHOPS - AGES 15 AND UP
